- Redemption: For Robbing The Dead enjoys national and international DVD and streaming media distribution, as well as a targeted theatrical release. Our Western feature written by Slamdance award winning screenwriter Tom Russell revolves around a frontier story based on actual events that explores conflict and compassion from the Old West. A grieving sheriff buries his only daughter, only to learn that a stranger has been robbing the dead. Torn between duty and outrage, he's forced to examine his own beliefs about mercy, justice, and redemption. An experienced ensemble cast brings significant weight to the film. - Beyond is a web series produced by BYU Theater and Media Arts. FLI served as executive producers on the project, an official selection at theNew York Television Festival in the Dramadey category recently. Watch the trailer here.
- Mental, a 16mm B/W film by Tom Russell served as the genesis for the 2006 feature film mr.dungbeetle. It tells the story of Doctor Jay Stackhouse - a board-appointed psychiatrist striving to reclaim five mental patients led by a charismatic schizophrenic named Phillip (Bill Nelson). Training along side his fellow soldiers while shielding them from the deceptive efforts of the senior psychiatrist, Doctor Stackhouse must ultimately confront his own concepts of allegiance, freedom, and reality. - mr. dungbeetle, a feature being distributed by FirstLight Independent Distribution, is a Film Partners 35mm feature written and directed by Tom Russell. The FLI connection is our favorite director and one of the principal actors. Five mental patients escape from a hospital and set up a cardboard encampment in the woods. To the surprise of their troubled psychiatrist, a charismatic leader Phillip (Bill Nelson) uses unusual abilities to try to help his compatriots. misterdungbeetle Facebook page. NEW! - Diantha's Crossing Firstlight provided technical support for RED digital photography for this sixty-minute period drama, written and directed by Tom Russell. As the Saints in Salt Lake City prepare to abandon the city by order of President Young in 1858, Diantha makes her preparations. But just as she prepares to leave, she witnesses the mistreatment of a young, expectant mother in a family passing through on their way to California. The husband abandons his wife and Diantha takes her in. The film joins the story inside Diantha’s cabin as she cares for the unconscious woman and faces her own fears, traumas, and preconceptions as she struggles with both anger and empathy.
